Gary Carter presents
The monthly tee
August 2019
We recently caught up with our Resident Pro, Gary Carter, to find out what's happening out on the courses. Gary has been at Five Lakes Resort for over 25 years and he believes both of our 18-hole courses are in the best shape they've been for a long time.
We thought it would be fun to walk you through one his favourite holes on the Lakes Course - hole 9. Watch Gary describe how to play this hole in the best way possible plus check out the condition of the course for yourselves.
Tee shot on the ninth hole. Gary's tip when teeing off is to aim for the flag pole in the distance.
As you near the hole, for your second shot (if all has gone to plan) you'll be faced with water on the right and a bunker on the left.
With the recent rain and warm sunshine, the rough around the greens has become very thick. This presents an extra challenge when pitching to the green. In this example Gary shows how to play a pitch and run shot up to the hole.
The greens on both courses are in great condition - measuring around 10 on the Stimpmetre. The Stimpmeter is a device used to measure the speed of a golf course putting green by applying a known force to a golf ball and measuring the distance traveled in feet.
